I went on a bike ride this morning into the more industrial part of Brighton; a part of Brighton I love, but not a part that many tourists get to see…I love texture and colour, and collecting images of these things forms a large part of my painting inspiration…
It was wet, windy and hard work today, but the flowers, textures and structures were worth it… When I came home I wanted to highlight the colours I’d seen along the concrete verges and mix them somehow with the colour of the beach huts and sea, utilising very little, other than things I’d found on the ground…I picked a tiny amount of a very few things, ( and when I did, there was masses of it ). I added Californian poppies from my own garden because I’d seen them growing by the beach, and picked up loads of red poppy and rose petals from the ground en route!
